“James (Jim) Merle Parrish, 86, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2026. He left behind a family who loved him deeply and countless memories filled with laughter, stories, and Kansas City Chiefs football.
Born May 4, 1940, in Kansas City, KS, to Aretha and Gerald Parrish, Jim spent much of his childhood in Appleton City, MO on his family farm. The farm earned the honorable distinction of a Missouri Century Farm, having been in his family since 1904. He took great pride in maintaining it and farming throughout his life. Growing up he was actively involved in Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout rank and the God and Country Award. Jim proudly served in the National Guard and also attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, MO.
Jim married Shirley Moore on June 3, 1963, and together they built a beautiful family. He was a devoted father to Jeffrey and Jennifer, as well as a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many. Later in life, Jim married Joann Salmon and lovingly welcomed her sons, Mike and Danny into the family as his own.
Jim was a longtime SCHICK project manager, restaurant owner-operator, and electrician. He was known for his strong work ethic, quick wit, and gift for conversation. He loved Sundays spent watching the Kansas City Chiefs at Wilson’s Pub with friends and family and relaxing at the lake condo he cherished.
Jim is survived by his children, Jeffrey Parrish (Mary) of Liberty, MO; Jennifer Parrish of St. Joseph, MO; Mike Sullivan of Castle Rock, WA; Danny Sullivan (Jennifer) of Austin, TX; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Conor Parrish (Alyssa, Vincent, Scottie), John Parrish, Charlie Parrish (Hania), Kate Parrish (Jonathan), Jacob Lawhon (Amber), Jordan Lawhon, Hunter Lawhon (Carrie, Brayden, Kaiven), Emma Lawhon, Lauren Ballard, Mike Sullivan, and Jalie Sullivan. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Aretha and Gerald Parrish; his first wife, Shirley Heller; his wife, Joann Parrish; and his granddaughter, Molly Parrish.
He will be remembered for the amazing life he lived, the love he gave his family, and the humor and warmth he shared with everyone around him.”
